    Let me tell you a short story - A customer comes in and says "My monitor comes on for less then a second and then immediately shuts off and won't come back up! I either want it fixed, or a pair of new ones to replace my current set." A replacement set would have cost roughly $1500. To summarize the service I provided, I managed to identify the singular failed electronic component (capacitor) on the power board of the device, and order a replacement ($10 after shipping). Once the part came in, I re-soldered it to the board and the monitor worked as if nothing had ever happened. So in the end I not only saved the customer well over $1000, but I got to learn and enjoy the experience.
